The nation’s first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in the state of Washington. However, it was not until 1972 that the day honoring fathers became a nationwide holiday in the United States. Father’s Day is a holiday celebrated annually on the third Sunday of June. It is a day that commemorates fatherhood and appreciates all fathers and father-figures (including grandfathers, great-grandfathers, stepfathers, and foster fathers) as well as their contribution to society. Father’s Day 2019 occurs on Sunday, June 16.
My relationship with my father was a tenuous one as I grew older. He had a very chauvinistic approach to life. Men were the important ones and women were subservient. Not terribly modern! I grew up working hard in school for good grades, taking on leadership roles, excelling in all that I tried, including my favorite, dance. Needless to say, I was trying to please and to get his attention.
As a child, this might have been cute, but it did not look good on a grown woman. My first marriage was an example of that behavior and did not last very long. The best thing that came out of that marriage was my son…there are no accidents in life and no regrets; he is a gift!
Re-examining my relationship prompted me to work on a new Tarot reading celebrating Father’s Day and all the people that take on that role. If I had an interesting relationship with my father, I realized that I wasn’t the only one in that position.
A Tarot Reading not only examines the role of father, it helps to tap into the underlying notions and feelings that we may have and are not fully aware. It also checks into how we reflect and live the attitudes and behaviors of our fathers both dark and light.
What exactly does this reading examine and what questions are involved? Let’s take a look:
- What is my relationship with my father?
- What is the great gift my father has given me?
- What is the great challenge my father has given me?
- How am I similar to my father?
- How am I unlike my father?
- How do I define myself in comparison to him?
- How an I best honor our relationship?
- Summary card for reading
I did this reading for myself and each card actually gave me some emotional and mental peace. When you spend a lot of energy, like me, on trying to be seen and feel important in your father’s eyes, you can feel that you are “less than”, not enough, lack confidence and unworthy. Not a good place!
- How has your father or father figure impacted your life?
- Is it time to make peace with that relationship whether your father is living or dead?
- Do you feel that there’s something left undone or unsaid?
- Has your relationship been loving and fulfilling, and you would like to carry on this great tradition for your children?
- We are what we learn growing up. How has that impacted you both good and bad?
Would you like to have the questions answered about these feelings or perceptions? Peace, harmony and joy in life are the most important things!
Let’s be in touch.
