August: STAND IN THE LIGHT

Stand in the Light

It’s August and the sign of Leo. This is the only sign not ruled by a planet, but a star, The Sun. The Sun shines bright through the summer. The Sun brings light and warmth.

Some of the qualities of Leo are dramatic, regal, stylish, warm, charming, gifted and confident. There’s also generous, expansive, creative, artsy, self-disciplined, magnetic, brave and a calm demeanor. However, this is the Lion so know there may only be an outward appearance of calm, yet below there’s passion and fire.

There are even mantras for Leo Season:       (@spiritdaughter)

·        I am strong. I am brave. I am love.

·        I allow my heart to lead me even when it feels vulnerable.

·        I accept, appreciate and approve of myself.

·        I courageously express my visions to the world.

·        I celebrate the life I’ve created.

Why the focus on Leo? Well, it’s my birthday this month and the one thing I know is that the above qualities are not just for Leos. Everyone possesses these qualities in one form or another because you all have the sign of Leo in your birth chart.

All of these attributes and qualities shine in the Light. I could list all the darker shadow qualities of Leo (or everyone), but why bother? We can see and hear enough of the darker qualities in news and social media.

Isn’t it more important and doesn’t it feel better to stand in the Light?

Think about the warmth of the sun, the ability to see clearly, the healthy vitamins, the freedom and the LIGHT!

You are the LIGHT!

You radiate all the above qualities and more each time you smile, show kindness to yourself and others, and create your life.

You are the LIGHT!

We had a New Moon in Leo Thursday, July 28th, and now we move into the light toward a Full Moon on August 11. All of this is the natural order of things.

But, you have a choice each day to choose LIGHT or DARKNESS.

Are you going to choose to feel the negativity in the news, social media and the world around you?

Or are you going to be the one that brings the LIGHT?

Because you are the LIGHT! You are Star Stuff! You can shine like the Sun!

So, celebrate YOU! Because you are magnificent, magnetic and marvelous!

If you’d like to expand on YOU and your magnificence, then take advantage of the reading special for August, CELEBRATE YOU!

Enjoy the Light! Enjoy the passion and fire of August!

Enjoy being YOU!!

July 2022: FREEDOM

We are celebrating Independence Day here in the United States on July 4th. We celebrate our freedom on many levels, whether physically, spiritually or emotionally.

Let’s take a look at the general definition of FREEDOM:

“Freedom, generally, is having the ability to act or change without constraint. Something is “free” if it can change easily and is not constrained in its present state. … A person has the freedom to do things that will not, in theory or in practice, be prevented by other forces.”

Within our Constitution and laws there are some guidelines for freedom with respect to others and yourself which include:

·         Freedom of Association

·         Freedom of Belief

·         Freedom of Speech

·         Freedom to express oneself

·         Freedom of the press

·         Freedom to choose one’s state in life

·         Freedom of religion

·         Freedom from bondage and slavery

·         Freedom of education

·         And more… https://simplicable.com/new/freedom

Also, cause for celebration is the freedom of choice and spirit; the freedom to function and be who you came here to be. In this new way of being in the COVID age, you have a new opportunity to be a fully functioning individual.

What does that mean? What is a fully functioning person? Carl Rogers describes this as an ongoing process. That’s a given with the goal of peace and joy. Rogers’ seven characteristics are rooted more in philosophy than everyday life.

The basis of everything above comes down to CHOICE.

“Freedom of choice describes an individual’s opportunity and autonomy to perform an action selected from at least two available options, unconstrained by external parties.”

·        You can choose to be happy…or not.

·        You can choose to be open to new experiences.

·        You can choose your own opinion on what happens around you and not depend on the opinions of others.

·        You can choose to trust that the choices you make are best for you.

·        You can make decisions for you without concern for the criticism of others.

·        You can choose to live in harmony with others and be accepting of diversity.

·        You can choose to grow by being open to constructive criticism and choose or not to accept it.

·        You can choose to love yourself enough that you don’t need the others to make you feel whole and powerful.

·        You can choose to be creative and express yourself in a healthy way.

The more freedom and autonomy people have, the greater their well-being. The more choice people have, the greater their freedom and autonomy. Therefore, the more choice people have, the greater their well- being.

How will you choose FREEDOM?

What will you choose?

Happy Independence Day!!

June: ICE CREAM

Ice cream

It’s June and a month of endings; school, classes, graduation and more. It’s also a month of new beginnings. For information, I googled what is special about June such as the month of_____.  There’s quite a list. Then I googled the themes of June. And I hit pay dirt!!

The theme for June is outdoors, end of the year, Father’s Day, Flag Day, Ocean, Beach, Summer and ICE CREAM!

There it is: ICE CREAM!!

Those that know me know that ice cream is my jam, my go to, my favorite dessert. I even have it for breakfast on occasion. My special little guy, Teddy, is a big fan, too. When we’re out with family, we are the only two that get ice cream after dinner or on a hot afternoon. We’re connoisseurs. We’re ice cream snobs. We only like the good stuff!!

To me ICE CREAM is JOY! It feels creamy, cold and good in your mouth. It feels good as it goes into my tummy. It just feels good.

It feels good! Yes, it feels good! It’s a simple tasty food that feels good! Feeling good may start with eating ice cream but it allows me to visualize other feel good and joyful things. I can be on St. George Island and climbing the stairs to Aunt Ebby’s for a treat. I can be walking in St. Augustine, Florida and stop at the Kulwin’s that always has a line on a hot day. I can be out for my walk in downtown Miami when visiting Tim and stop for ice cream at 10 in the morning. I can be anywhere I choose that brings me JOY!

This may seem like a frivolous blog this month, yet the real focus here is JOY and what makes YOU feel good.  Whether you’re thinking about Father’s Day and the memories that bring JOY or thinking about the summer fun times, it’s all about the JOY.

What are your favorite JOYFUL memories or places?

Who brings you JOY?

EnJOY this beautiful month of June as you’re out and about more.

And, remember JOY has your name on it!

Love,

Donna

May 2022: Happy Mother’s Day

May is always a special month for me. The memories of my mother and grandmother who are always close are even more clear as May 9th and Mother’s Day approaches here in the United States. Growing up I saw them as amazing women who could do anything whether working at jobs away from home or being in the home with family. Most of all they were nurturers in their own way and in their own style. Super Mom and Nana!! I love you!

“The nurturing mother is not a myth or a fantasy. She was, for hundreds of thousands of years if not longer, the mother of all humans and the foundation on which our success as a species rested. This does not mean that she was worshipped as a Goddess, nor that she was part of a race of Amazons who dominated men. Neither did she, as an individual, correspond to the romantic images portrayed in civilization by Madonna-like paintings and sculptures. She simply cared for her offspring as any mammal does.”

~~~~~Dr James Kimmel, Ph.D.
That’s the basic definition of the nurturing mother and in today’s world what a mother does is even more expansive. Education, extracurricular activities, more closely monitoring of children with today’s social media and media, instilling the values of community, taking care of ailing parents, and religious or spiritual training. That’s just to name a few of the responsibilities of parents/nurturers.
At this point I want to be clear that all nurturers are not women. Men play a key role in nurturing, especially as a single parent.
The focus here is do you, as a nurturer taking care of those you love, nurture yourself with the same loving kindness, understanding, acceptance and good will that you do all those you care about and care for?
You’re learning to do this now. Self-care has been a big topic, and this is just a display and acknowledgement of self-love. The same love you give others you now have permission to give yourself.
YOU are important.
YOU are loved.
YOU are seen and heard.
The universe gives you permission.  And YOU give yourself permission.
Self-care begins with Self-love! Take advantage of this month’s special,
Self-Love Tarot Reading and Mantra
Learn how to prioritize yourself and overcome negative self-talk to recognize the special YOU!! Along with creating your own personal mantra, we will create a plan for the future together based on the outcome of the reading.
You can do this! You can take care of YOU!!
HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
April Blog: Happy Spring! The Sun enters Aries: I AM
April, the beginning the new astrological calendar year when the Sun moves into Aries, the first house of the zodiac and Spring with the glorious rebirth and decorating of nature for pure enjoyment and appreciation.
The First House is where you focus on YOU. How you show up in the world. How you are perceived. The ego is strong. Self-worth and confidence should be high. You should be feeling your power to accomplish whatever you desire.
My favorite quote for this house is the one by Marianne Williamson:
“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?’ Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
Marianne  Williamson,   A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of “A Course in Miracles”
You have the God-given Power, my dear!
But….
  • Why don’t I feel this power?
  • Why don’t I know that I can be the light for others as well as myself?
  • How do I truly feel that power and not fear?
The real reason? You truly feel the power through love. It’s always about love. And that begins with loving yourself first in order to have enough for everyone else in your life that you care about.
And you have divine permission to do just that.
Here is where I need to point out a tool to use to honor yourself and remember your power. (It never went away; you just ignored it for a while.)
To honor, respect and love you, it’s important to set boundaries with those around you whether personal, family or professional. ALL boundaries!
YOU have the power to set those boundaries and honor your spirit with love and respect.
HOW do I set boundaries with people I work with or people I love?
You already know the answer. You just need clarity on the how!
My reading special for this month is Setting Boundaries Tarot Reading. It’s 8 cards and 30 minutes with an additional 20 minutes to create a plan on setting your personal boundaries
Bit.ly/2022boundaries
Live with the light, power and freedom that you deserve!
Love,
Donna
March: Self-Compassion
This is a blog that I recently read and feel that it has such a powerful message. I am posting it here for March with special thanks and appreciation to Dr. Kristin Neff for her amazing insight.
Self-Appreciation: The Flip Side of Self-Compassion
Sometimes it’s more difficult to see what’s right about ourselves than what’s wrong. For some of us even thinking about our positive traits makes us uncomfortable. Praise and compliments can make us squirm, and we often don’t know how to respond without self-consciousness. Flattery feels a lot better than insults, of course, but how many of us really take the praise in? Own it. Delight in it. For a whole host of reasons it’s often trickier than you might think to feel positively about ourselves; most of these stem from fear.
One fear involves setting up overly-high expectations. Underplaying our good points means that we’re more likely to pleasantly surprise others by doing well rather than disappoint them by doing poorly. We’re also afraid of letting go of the devil we know. If we’re in the habit of cutting ourselves down, recognition of our positive qualities will feel alien to us. Another fear is the perception of being vain. Nobody likes a narcissist — except the narcissist.
So how do we celebrate our admirable qualities in a healthy way? I believe the answer is self-compassion, which involves treating ourselves with kindness, a sense of common humanity, and mindfulness when considering our perceived inadequacies — though in a different guise. I like to call it “self-appreciation.” When we can enjoy what’s good about ourselves, acknowledging that all people have strengths as well as weaknesses, we allow ourselves to revel in our goodness without evoking feelings of arrogance or overconfidence.
Let’s first consider kindness as it applies to self-appreciation. Would you take your friends’ good qualities for granted without ever acknowledging them or letting your friends know what you like about them? Probably not, yet many of us do so to ourselves. It’s a great gift of self-kindness to appreciate ourselves and to demonstrate our approval with sincere praise. We don’t have to speak this praise aloud, making ourselves and others uncomfortable in the process. But we can quietly give ourselves the inner acknowledgement we deserve.
The sense of common humanity inherent to self-appreciation means that we appreciate ourselves not because we’re better than others, but because all people have goodness in them. To appreciate others’ goodness while ignoring our own creates a false division between us and them. But as a distinctive expression of the universal human condition that animates all our experience, we honor everything when we honor ourselves. As the Zen master Thich Nhat Hahn writes, “You are a wonderful manifestation. The whole universe has come together to make your existence possible.” Celebrating our achievements is no more self-centered than having compassion for our failings. We can’t really claim personal responsibility for our gifts and talents. They were born from our ancestral gene pool, the love and nurturing of our parents, the generosity of friends, the guidance of teachers, and the wisdom of our collective culture. Appreciation for our good qualities, then, is really an expression of gratitude for all who have shaped us as individuals. Self-appreciation humbly honors those who have helped us become the person we are today.
Self-appreciation also entails mindfulness. Just as we need to notice others’ good qualities in order to appreciate them, we need to consciously acknowledge our own positive features. However, we’re often so focused on our mistakes and flaws that we don’t even see when we get things right. What do you notice most when you get a work evaluation, the nine points of praise or the one point of criticism? Some may be concerned that if we focus too much on what’s right about ourselves we’ll ignore much needed areas of growth. This is true only if our focus is, in fact, “too much.” If we take a lopsided view of ourselves — “I am perfect and have no weaknesses whatsoever” — that would certainly be a problem. But the truth is that every human being has both positive and negative traits. Rather than running away with an exaggerated storyline about either, good or bad, we instead need to honor and accept ourselves as we authentically are. No better and no worse. The key is having balance and perspective so that we can see ourselves without distortion.
William James, one of the founding fathers of Western psychology, once wrote that “the deepest principle in human nature is the craving to be appreciated.” Luckily, we can meet this essential need without depending on other people to approve of us. When we treat ourselves with the same kindness with which we treat our good friends, we’ll have the support and care required to help us thrive.
THRIVE IN KINDNESS, APPRECIATION AND SELF-COMPASSION
