Burst into a Confident June!!

Confidence in All Things

I love my coaching clients! I work with women who have accomplished many things in life both personally and professionally. My clients are women who have reached a time in life to stop and smell the roses, but now many feel uncomfortable and may even have the feeling of being stuck. This feeling of discomfort is an indicator and a precursor to change, but we really have to feel that discomfort to make the change. And we have to determine what change means.  What does it look like?  What does it feel like? What do I want?

The women I work with have all been successful in life. They are at a place where they can enjoy the rewards of their work. Yet, age and experience have shown them there is more to life. What that is they may not know right now, but what they do know is that there is more to than the now they are living.

I have a new coaching client who came for her first visit last week. After an assessment of where she is now, Annie then created a priority of what she wanted to change or work on while with me. Her number one priority was self-confidence. Annie is an accomplished professional, now retired, who’s looking for more.

The amazing thing is she is not alone. Lack of self-confidence is the number one priority for 90% of the women I work with; women who have had careers, raised families, shared life with a partner, taken care of family members, volunteered at local charities or schools and much, much more. Moving into the next chapter makes her fearful and excited at the same time.

So we have reached the point of asking the question, “NOW WHAT?”  Let’s start with BREATHE! And remember that with each breath you are creating your new reality of a more confident YOU!!

                                                           1.      Breathe

                                                           2.      Relax  into just being YOU

                                                           3.      Explore the new horizon

                                                           4.      Appreciate your life and everything in it

                                                           5.      Touch your higher self through meditation

                                                           6.      Heal old wounds and forgive yourself

                                                           7.      Energize and focus on you

Do you see yourself here? Or is life not feeling its fullest? Have events in life left a void? Have you lost a partner or are your children now grown? Is there an empty place that needs to be filled with a new purpose?

Then let’s talk.

Welcome to May!

Welcome to May!!

The flowers are really in bloom now. The trees are lush and green and the animal babies are showing up more and more. I love watching the parent cardinals oversee their brood. The young birds are not as cautious as the parents and the young ones are taking chances by being close to people. While retrieving my newspaper from the driveway one morning, I eagerly watched a young cardinal hop around on the ground close to me. Overhead on the neighbor’s roof twittered the dad in his bright red feathered coat trying to get the attention of his teenager. If you have children, this scenario will resonate! Finally, there was recognition of the parent’s frantic call and the youngster responded by joining his dad on the roof of the adjacent house. Whew!! must have been the first response from dad and scolding the second. It was most amusing!
But this scene brought to mind the third principle in The One Philosophy and that is Exhibit Exemplary Behavior and Attitude. Dad cardinal displayed exemplary behavior as a parent. He did not give up on his errant teenager, but continued to call, pursue and attract attention. He was persistent. His attitude was one of perseverance. A perfect example for us all.
Think about the people that have caught your attention and continue to be a lasting memory. Was it because of their possessions; the expensive clothes, the flashy car or the big house? Or was it their behavior, their interaction with others with respect and kindness, their generous spirit, their sharing of their gifts and their strength of character? Are these the people that you model in your own life because you have felt their profound influence for the better?
Let me say that again in a different way. How are YOU showing up in the world? Will you be a model for others because of your ethical behavior and positive attitude?
  1. Make a list of the values that resonate with you and how you show up in life, both personal and business.
  2. Are you in alignment with these values each day?
  3. Have you ever been presented with an opportunity to solidify these values in your life? When speaking of opportunity, it means a situation that allows you to practice this value.
My opportunity occurred while teaching fifth grade. A student in my classroom was bright, but did not complete assignments. I could not grade assignments that were not received or designate a grade based on a guess because I knew his abilities. The parent was not happy and asked me to change the grade. The parent offered me a “gift” if I would make the change.  It was a tempting offer. Classroom teachers do not make that much money and at the time I had over 20 years’ experience and a master’s degree and barely made $40,000 a year. But, accepting the “gift” would be dishonest for me and an insult to every other student that followed directions and completed all their assignments. I said no. My reward was how I felt about myself and that counted for much, much more than a “gift”. I have no regrets.
My newest certification is to teach The One Philosophy by Nancy Matthews. It is such an honor and a certification of which I’m very proud.

HAPPY SPRING!

SPRING! It’s really here! It’s an amazing and beautiful time of the year. Here in Tallahassee everything is in bloom and the pollen has turned everything yellow. One can hear the sounds of uncontrollable sneezing and see the view of brilliant color. Ah, Spring!

Spring is also the beginning of the astrological calendar and year with the sign of Aries. Aries, first house of the astrological chart, is a Fire Sign and all about our need to be independent and develop self-awareness.  Aries is pioneering, innovative, spontaneous, energetic, active, confident, and enthusiastic.

Imagine spreading all this fire and light with the rest of the world? How do you see yourself helping others? What is your creative vision of how you serve others in this world? Imagine it. Feel it. Is it to be the best support for your family as you can be? Is it to serve your company and rise to the top? Is it to volunteer at your favorite charity and see the donations and help grow? Is it to prepare that creative, exotic meal for someone you love? Whatever that vision is, it’s about being The One.

The One Philosophy, being the one for others, was introduced in last month’s blog along with the first principle of Talk Less and Listen More. Let’s move on to the H in The One and the second principle.

The second principle is Hold Your Vision and Share It with Others. Having a clear vision of what you want and sharing it with others opens the field of possibilities for the people who are meant to support and contribute to your vision to appear.

  1. Take time to get clear on your vision. Allow the dream. Feel it deeply. Where do you want to live? What car do you want to drive? Who will share your life? What will your next chapter in life be now that you can dream into your next purpose? Where will you take your children or grandchildren for the summer?
  2. This is the time to HOLD the vision. Did the Negative Nellies in your mind start showing up. Are they telling you that you can’t have your dream and given you at least 5 reasons.
  3. Share your vision. One of the best ways to really claim your vision and begin to allow it to manifest is to share your dream and vision with others. Share it with the Universe and allow the support to show up.
  4. FEAR. The most important part of this principle is HOLDING the vision, don’t deviate, believe. I don’t know about you, but this is where I am challenged. The Negative Nellies can show up. The FEAR, False Evidence Appearing Real, shows up. My heart starts racing along with my mind with all the reasons I will fail and how that will feel.

How can I make this dream a reality?

I can’t do this!

If I don’t accomplish this, I’m a failure.

What will others think?

You can do this! And if you need help, I’m here as your Divine Accountability Guide to help you hold the vision and dream. We all need some support. The world gets more complex with thousands of messages coming to us all at once and not all of them kind. I remind you of your power, greatness and ability to achieve. I have your back!

Yes, you can do this!

Talk Less and Listen More

Life can bring surprises. Have you had that experience where one little comment can send you off into a universe of understanding far beyond earlier thoughts? That Aha Moment when you say that it all makes perfect sense and why hadn’t you thought of that before?

My Aha moment came in the form of a small book, The One Philosophy, written by Nancy Matthews, co-founder of Women’s Prosperity Network and a caring friend. The book encompasses just six principles and each reminds us of what it means to be “the one” for ourselves and for others, supportive, respectful, and loving. I chose to be part of the Founders Circle and become certified to speak on each of the principles.

What I really mean is to speak on the essence of each of the principles and not just the words: how we can make our life better, feel better, speak with understanding of others and I’m all for that! Our world has become full of name calling, blame and ugly words which doesn’t leave us feeling good.  The rhetoric becomes a distraction from the real issue. We’re truly not divided into little groups or put into boxes with a label to have our importance rated and determined by others. We’re all in this together.

Fifth graders were my world in another life. I enjoyed working with young people. Teaching is a symbiotic relationship and we learned from each other. With the sheer numbers in a classroom, we had to have structure and rules. The overriding rule in our classroom was BE KIND. It was the blanket rule for everything. The same holds true for the principles in The One Philosophy.

So let’s start with Number One: TALK LESS AND LISTEN MORE.

“One of the most sincere forms of respect is actually listening to what another has to say.”   Bryant H. McGill

This means really listening. Being totally present to the other person and not planning on what you’re going to say. Or making that list in our minds of what we need to do. Or looking around to see who’s come into the room or walked through the door. Imagine the gift you give a person when you let them know that they are important to you by just listening to what they have to say. It may be a relative who is telling you the same story for the umpteenth time. It may be your child trying to tell you something while you’re on your phone. It may be your client letting you know what they need. It may be your spouse or partner asking your opinion while you’re doing something else. The scenarios are endless. And I have been guilty of them all!

What does it feel like if someone doesn’t listen when we speak to them? We’ve been on the receiving end of being ignored in a store, in the grocery line, our spouse or partner, business associates, customer service personnel and our kids. We lose our significance and importance as a person in the situation.

But, we have the opportunity to give ALL those that we meet the gift of listening.

Here are a few tips according to Nancy:

  • Look in the eyes of the person you’re speaking with.
  • Be excited and eager to learn something new.
  • Resist the urge to look over their shoulder and around the room.
  • When your mind drifts, bring yourself gently back.
  • If the environment is not conducive to listening, ask to set a time or place in the future to continue.
  • Turn off the already and “I already know that.” “I always do that.”
  • Instead of trying to win an argument, consider that the other person is trying to make a point as well. You may not agree, but you can listen.

Be the One that you want to meet in the world and Be the One for YOU!!

Next month, Principle Two: Hold Your Vision and Share It With Others.

MARCH HOROSCOPES

ARIES:  Feel Spring in the air! It’s your month as you start off the astrological year as Spring. Your personal life or a particular relationship is going to snap with change. From the Full Moon on the 12th to the 19th, enterprising modes of operation may not be the most exciting, but they will turn out to be constructive. The New Moon in Aries signals great energies: important, accepted and approved and impulsive.

TAURUS: You love the Springtime. Things feel like they’re growing perfectly for you. The Full Moon has you meeting with other like-minded Earth sign people. There may be some money questions to answer. With Venus retrograde in your 12th House, people from the past may show up, old lover? Mars enters Taurus and there is increased energy for you. After the 23rd, tough goings with planets possibly destabilizing security.

GEMINI: This is the month to develop new work strategies and network. Let your dreams and ideals in as well as your family time. After the 17th, things could be a bit more cynical. Get organized and hold responsibilities together. Your social life takes off like a firecracker. Follow the beat of your own drummer and be innovative and progressive. The end of the month could find you at odds with others. Stay grounded.

CANCER: Your Ninth House, higher mind, philosophy and distance travel, is activated this month. The Full Moon of the 12th and the 17th means double check all decisions. Faith and spirituality are sources of strength and inspiration. When Mars enters Taurus on the 9th, your social life picks up. CAPRICORN: The Sun in Pisces sets the solar influence for the month in your communication house. The Full Moon in Virgo may bring chaotic emotions or difficult circumstances regarding people’s feelings. But, there’s clean up from the 12th to the 20th. The Full Moon in Virgo, opposite your Sun, could bring a lucky breakthrough or a risky overplay. Be careful. At the end of the month, thing could get pretty extreme if tension has been building. Happy Valentine’s Day 2017!

Valentine’s Day. The raucous, pagan holiday that has morphed over the centuries to the holiday it is today and only second to Christmas in commercialism. What is the history that leads up to this big money maker?

Pope Gelasius recast the pagan holiday in 496.  The Catholic Church recognized three saints named Valentine or Valentinus. One of these was sentenced to death for secretly performing wedding ceremonies in the 5th century. The thought at the time was that Roman soldiers were believed to be better fighters if they remained single. The 15th Century saw the first written Valentine greeting of love and romance. Greeting cards were freely exchanged as custom in 17th Century England.

The first mass-produced Valentine card was in the 1840’s and from there it has grown to what we know as Valentine’s Day today with 1 billion cards each year sold, $20 billion spent on Valentine’s Day each year at a cost of $130 per person annually. This means 35 million heart shaped boxes of chocolates and 220 million roses. And let’s not forget about the $4 billion in jewelry that’s purchased annually. Many couples become engaged on Valentine’s Day with all the romance in the air and the purchase of a ring.

It is no understatement to say that billions are spent in February in preparation for February 14. Does all the candy, roses and dinners at a fancy restaurant enhance a relationship and create the experience of what it means to be in love? Not always. Just because it’s Valentine’s Day, the expectation and anticipation of receiving a gift can sometimes be a bit disastrous. How about the last-minute gift picked up at the drugstore on the way home as an afterthought that screams, “I forgot about you until I got in the car to go home!”.  What about the dog-eared card from so many rejected views that’s the last one on the shelf? This gesture is always a pleasant reminder of the true feelings of Valentine’s Day (said tongue-in-cheek).

What if your Valentine’s Day is meant to show just how much you care for that special person in your life? You know that feeling you get when you are really close to that person? The cuddle up together close? That two, different people coming together as one close?

You can make your couple experience unique and special with one reading for two people and feel greater closeness and intimacy. Don’t do the usual, do the unique and enhance the love experience. Just Feel the Joy!

Make your Valentine’s Day a memorable one and be more adventurous than a box of chocolates, more breathtaking than a dozen roses and last longer than a dinner at a restaurant. Just Feel the Joy!

If you haven’t realized it yet, this special Feel the Joy reading is just for the two of you! Make your Valentine’s Day special for you both! Make it unique! Make it last longer than the heart shaped box of chocolates!

This special reading comes with a companion sheet to guide you in the meaning of the cards and to give you space for notes. It can be done in person or by phone and recorded for review later.

You and your sweetie are worth it!!  FEEL THE JOY!!

Happy New Year!! Review, Renew, Redo

Review, Renew, Redo

Happy New Year! Yes! It’s 2017. Wait!!! Did I forget the date?? This newsletter/blog was to go out January 1! It was a great intention, but life got in the way. Does that every happen to you?

In my own defense (?), I was one of the primary organizers of an event on January 7 called Connect Tallahassee that included 25 vendors, 10 intuitives and 8 speakers. 150 people attended and paid $5 to be there and take part in all that was offered to rejuvenate body, mind and spirit. It was truly a success after a year of planning with an amazingly talented people who stepped up to the plate on all counts. We were all putting the finishing touches on the finite details the month before the event.

And now it’s over and I’m looking at 2017 like it just started. Better late, than never is a good saying right now.

Now it’s time to look at 2017. Allow me share to with you the three steps that I’m now evaluating to get 2017 off to a great start. These are 3 easy steps for personal and business endeavors and growth. Connect Tallahassee is still in my view so I will even incorporate these three steps into the body, mind and spirit connection. Let’s begin:

REVIEW:

I took out my 2016 calendar and I’m reviewing what I have accomplished in 2016…some successful, some not so successful. All of the actions are learning experiences and I’m doing my best not to judge them or me. To my surprise, I accomplished a great deal. This review involves my own personal growth, the attitudes and perceptions I had about myself and business beginning in January of 2016 to January 2017. The realization that giant steps have been taken actually made me feel good. So I’m choosing to focus on the good which takes me to the next step. Take a look at 2016 for you! What have you accomplished? Pat yourself on the back. You’ve come a long way, baby!

Here’s what I suggest we do now:

RENEW:

If something worked, keep it. It’s the old adage, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” This is true much of the time, but not all the time. If what you do is effective and comfortable, keep it. As crazy as it sounds, I love calendars where I can write information, notes and appointments.  I’m not digital calendar friendly! An attractive, large spiral calendar works for me. I can make notes for clients, reference other materials and actually make appointments.

How about you? What is worth keeping as a habit, behavior, action, equipment, or even people in your life? What serves you well and makes you feel good? Then maybe you should keep it. What doesn’t?

As I said before, just because it works right now doesn’t mean that we should keep it and that leads me to the next and last step:

REDO:

Remember the old home phone with a dial? I know, I’m dating myself, but they really still work. But, how efficient and effective are they in today’s world? Don’t even ask me what type of coffeemaker I have. And it still works!

Many people do not even have a land line anymore and rely totally on their smartphone that gives them more information than they can absorb in a day. What do you think? Are there some things that you’re doing that still work, but are outmoded and no longer serve you?  Whether it’s office equipment, actions or habits, or even people, if something doesn’t serve your highest good, then it’s time to change it.

January is the time of resolutions, but I’d rather call them goals or intentions. The three steps above help you put into perspective what is important for you. Take your time, write it down: review, renew, redo. Take an honest look at you and 2016. Good luck!

Here’s to 2017! May it be the best year ever! May you have success, fulfillment, happiness and prosperity!

Happy YOU!!
